Unveil of "Go Bike" Artwork at Reynolds' Downtown Campus

J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College welcomed City of Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones, the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce (GRCC), Altria, Bon Secours Richmond Health System, and Dominion Virginia Power to unveil and dedicate a public artwork on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the corner of 7th Street East Jackson Street in front of Reynolds’ Downtown Campus. The artwork, titled “In search of our hopes and dreams, a long road traveled,” was created by award-winning artist Ed Trask and is part of GRCC’s “Go Bike!” community project, which features unique artistic works mounted on functional bike racks throughout the city ahead of the 2015 Road World Cycling Championships.

“Like many of the infrastructure improvements performed in anticipation of the World Cycling Championships, these functional, public art, bike racks will be here for future generations,” said Mayor Dwight C. Jones. “This project also forwards our Center for Workforce Innovation efforts as program participants crafted the racks while developing their career path.”

“Reynolds is thrilled to support local creative talent in the City of Richmond. Ed Trask’s piece is an inspiring reminder of each individual’s capacity to learn, grow and choose their own destiny. Reynolds is proud to be an institution where thousands of outstanding lives get started every year in the greater Richmond region,” said Reynolds President Dr. Gary Rhodes.

Altria is the arts sponsor of the “Go Bike!” community project. “Altria is proud to sponsor the Go Bike! Arts program that will have a lasting impact on Richmond, long after the race leaves town,” said Jennifer Hunter, Altria’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs. “Supporting Richmond 2015 and this initiative helps make our hometown a better place to live, work and play.”
