City Arborist Selected for Board Position with International Society of Arboriculture

City Arborist Selected for Board Position with International Society of Arboriculture Department of Public Works Arborist Janine Lester has been nominated to sit on the Board of Directors with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Lester, who is a board certified master arborist (BCMA) – municipal specialist and a qualified tree risk assessor, is the city’s first and only female arborist. She is currently the interim operations manager for the Urban Forestry Division.   Lester serves as the education chair of the Richmond Tree Stewards, and as a master gardener extension agent with the Virginia Cooperative Extension. She is the only female holding a BCMA-level certification in the Mid-Atlantic region.   Lester holds memberships in the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA), Society of Municipal Arborists (SMA), and the Arboricultural Research and Education Academy (AREA).   The International Society of Arboriculture

Notice to Landlords and Tenants regarding Eviction Diversion Pilot Program NOTICE TO LANDLORDS AND TENANTS REGARDING EVICTION DIVERSION PILOT PROGRAM   The General District Court for the City of Richmond is an Eviction Diversion Pilot Program Court as of July 1, 2020.  Unlawful detainer (civil claim for eviction) cases filed in this court may be referred to the program to allow the tenant to make past-due rent payments on a court-ordered payment plan.  To take part in the program, the tenant must: ·       Appear in court on the hearing date and time written on the Summons for Unlawful Detainer (Civil Claim for Eviction) and request to have the case referred to the program, ·       Pay at least 25% of the amount due on the hearing date, o    Contact the landlord to confirm total amount due on the hearing date. ·       Swear in court that they are employed or otherwise have enough money to make payments under the payment plan, ·       Explain the reasons for being unable to make rental p

NOTICE OF FUNDING AVAILABILITY FOR CDBG-CV and HOPWA-CV With the adoption of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) the City of Richmond is issuing a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the unallocated funds of $1,840,834, in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-CV) and $137,779 in Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA). The City of Richmond is soliciting applications from organizations to implement programs/projects that are consistent with the objectives of the CARES Act, which are to be used to “prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic” and have a direct impact on our low and moderate income City residents and businesses, except for HOPWA funds for which the City administers funds for the entire Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).  Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ability to successfully meet these objectives in compliance with all applicable federal and City requirements pursuant to the use of CDBG and

City to Resume Parking Enforcement July 6

City to Resume Parking Enforcement July 6 As the city enters Phase III re-opening during the COVID-19 pandemic, Richmond will resume citywide enforcement for parking violations on Monday, July 6. Vehicles in violation may be ticketed. A 15 minute parking window will be allowed for curbside pick-up accommodations for restaurants in commercial districts and in neighborhoods with numerous restaurants. Re-starting parking enforcement will not impact the current parking citation amnesty program put in place during the pandemic. Fines and penalties are being waived on tickets received on or after March 16, 2020 as long as the original ticketed amount is paid by August 31, 2020. The total amount due on tickets overdue as of March 16, 2020 will be frozen and not accrue additional fines and penalties if paid in full by August 31, 2020.
