Office of Minority Business Development, Capital One partner in the Diverse Supplier Mentoring Program Today, the City of Richmond’s Office of Minority Business Development and Capital One officially announced the   “Diverse Supplier Mentoring Program.”   Led by Capital One, the program provides business owners with the tools, resources and counsel needed to succeed in today’s marketplace. A part of Capital One’s Impact Initiative, the program aims to accelerate the success of small business owners to create more jobs, strengthen the local economy and move our society toward a more equitable future.   Ten businesses have been selected to participate in the program, which will pair associates with business owners to develop sustainable models that accelerate year over year growth, profitability and key operating metrics. Disability Employment Awareness Month Job Fair

In recognition of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the City of Richmond, Office of Aging and Disability Services and Anthem Healthkeepers Plus will be presenting a job fair on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.   This virtual session will be conducted  from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm and will consist of employers and resource providers to support the lives of individuals with disabilities.   National Veterans Day posters from 2020 as selected by the Veterans Day National Committee. Each year the committee publishes a commemorative Veterans Day poster from artwork submitted by artists nationwide and distributes the winning design to VA facilities, military installations around the world, and across cities and towns in our nation. The poster serves as the cover of the official program for the Veterans Day Observance at Arlington National Cemetery. Interesting Poster Facts: 2020 Poster: The theme for the 2020 Veterans Day Poster is: “Vision: Veterans in Focus.” The designer, Casey Brown, is a Marine Corps Veteran who served in the infantry and was deployed to Iraq. DPW Kicking Off the 2020-2021 Leaf Collection Season on October 5

Bagged collection begins October 5; vacuum services starts November 2 Fall is here, which means it’s almost that time of year. The Department of Public Works kicks off the city’s annual Leaf Program on October 5 with the start of bagged leaf collection. Residents have two options for bagged collection, (1) put out up to 10 bags weekly on their regular trash pick-up day, or (2) use the Sector Collection system, which coincides with trash collection days, but allows for an unlimited number of bags and an extended collection period. Biodegradable bags are preferred.  Sector 1: Wednesday trash collection. All bagged leaves will be picked up between November 4 and November 18. Sector 2: Thursday trash collection. East Richmond Road Convenience Center to Remain Closed an Additional Week for Upgrades

Work pushed back one week As work continues on improvements at the East Richmond Road Convenience Center (ERRCC) there has been an unexpected delay in re-opening. Business at the facility will resume on Tuesday, September 8 at 7 a.m. The ERRCC closed on Monday for construction to replace the existing trailer where employees conduct business. During this time, the transfer station at 3520 Hopkins Rd. can be used. Those opting to use that facility will be required to off-load items on their own. Materials such as trash, bulk and brush can be taken there. Household hazardous waste CANNOT be disposed at that location. Hours of operation at Hopkins Road are 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.  The facility is only for city residents. Proof of residency is required.

City Parking Amnesty Program Ending August 31

Outstanding tickets must be paid by deadline On Monday, August 31 at 5 p.m. the parking amnesty program for overdue citations will end and the city will begin booting vehicles with outstanding past due tickets.   The program was initiated as a result of the immediate impact COVID-19 had on those living and working in the city. Now that amnesty is ending those who received tickets on or after March 16 must pay the original ticketed amount by Monday in order to have any additional fines and penalties waived.   Those owing money for parking tickets and overdue penalties prior to March 16 had the amounts due frozen and were not accruing additional fines and penalties during the amnesty period. Those frozen amounts must now be paid by Monday. ­   DMV related hold fees were not included in the amnesty program.   For additional information, please call 3-1-1.   For more information on City services please visit www.Richmondgov.com .

  Community Public Meetings City of Richmond, Virginia Preparation of Five Year Consolidated Plan PY 2021-2025 PY    The City of Richmond is creating a new five year Consolidated Plan. This plan identifies the City’s overall needs for affordable housing, community development, economic development, community facilities and services for persons with special needs. This plan lays out the strategic actions to be taken by the City to address the needs identified by our citizens, organizations, students, seniors, developers, business owners, faith based organizations, philanthropic partners, service providers, nonprofits, adjacent jurisdictions, and our legislative, and local leadership. HUD requires the City to have a planning document that outline the uses of federal funds that meet local needs. The Consolidated Plan serves as the City’s official plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the CDBG, HOME, ESG, and HOPWA entitlement programs. The City of Richmond
