BACKGROUND: Since 1960 the American Public Works Association has sponsored National Public Works Week across North America. It celebrates the tens of thousands of men and women who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. It was established through a United States Senate resolution and is scheduled annually during the third week of May.
The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is accredited through the American Public Works Association.
This year's national theme "Building for Today, Planning for Tomorrow" embodies stewardship and building sustainable communities to enhance the quality of life for future generations.
