BACKGROUND:

In December, the Mayor’s Youth Academy (MYA) launched a FIRST Robotics (FRC) team, RVA Coder Collective, in partnership with CodeVA. It is Virginia’s only all-city team that is not directly sponsored by a single school. FRC teams participate in the premier international robotics competition run by FIRST Robotics.

The MYA team will compete against teams from all over the world March 18 - 21 at Virginia Regional’s competition held annually at Virginia Commonwealth University's Siegel Center. The team will build, program, market and compete using a robot of their own design, with hands-off assistance and mentorship from teachers, industry professionals and other volunteers.
