BACKGROUND:   Youth violence is a mayor problem nationally, regionally, and in the City of Richmond. In Richmond, homicide is the leading cause of death among young people 15-24 years of age (according to the 2010 Annual Report of the Virginia Commonwealth University Clark-Hill Institute for Positive Youth Development). Young people are affected by violence in their homes, neighborhoods and schools at alarming rates. The Youth Violence Prevention Consortium on April 28th will allow participants to hear from featured speakers whom are on the forefront of youth violence prevention work locally and nationally, and to take part in discussion about contributing factors and issues revolving around youth violence, as well as solutions and strategies.
